Microsoft released a temporary fix for Linux boot issues on dual-boot systems caused by August 2024 Windows security updates
The issue prevents Linux from booting, showing an error related to SBAT self-check failure
It affects various Linux distributions, including Ubuntu, Linux Mint, and others, after the updates
The problem is due to a Secure Boot Advanced Targeting (SBAT) update meant to block vulnerable UEFI shim bootloaders
Microsoft acknowledged the dual-boot detection failed to catch some customized dual-boot setups
To fix the issue, users must disable Secure Boot, delete the SBAT update, and re-enable Secure Boot
Prevent future SBAT updates by modifying a registry key in Windows
Microsoft is investigating further with Linux partners and will provide more updates
Users are advised to update Linux systems once the boot issue is resolved
