Google is launching a new desktop app called Google Essentials, featuring key services like Google Photos, Drive, and Messages

The app will first appear preinstalled on new HP laptops, including Spectre, Envy, Pavilion, OMEN, and Victus models

Google Essentials can be accessed from the Start menu in Windows 11 and allows users to uninstall individual Google services or the entire app

The app serves as a hub for shortcuts to Google’s productivity services and provides centralized access to users' Google account information

Eligible subscribers get a 2-month free trial of Google One through the Essentials app

Google plans to expand the availability of Essentials to more Windows laptops in the future

Earlier this year, Microsoft made changes to its services to comply with the Digital Markets Act (DMA) after being labeled a gatekeeper by the EU

Microsoft allowed users to uninstall OneDrive, Edge, and Bing, and to pin third-party apps on the taskbar in Windows 11

Microsoft was exempted from DMA regulation for Bing and Edge after an investigation found they weren't dominant enough in the market

Mozilla criticized Microsoft for deceptive practices pushing Edge, while Opera filed a complaint to the EU about difficulties using third-party browsers as defaults on Windows
