However, after the recent Windows 11 update, the Teams Camera started not working on my Windows 11 PC. It really made me furious as I faced many problems due to this and I hope you too. There might be anything behind this error, but most possibly, your camera is off. However, you can most probably resolve this problem just by checking whether your device’s camera is on or off. But, if this is not the reason, then don’t worry as this isn’t very tough to resolve this problem. You can fix this problem using these potential fixes.

Why is my Teams camera not working on Windows 11?

It is possible that the Microsoft Teams camera is not working on Windows due to numerous factors. It is crucial to understand these potential causes to troubleshoot and resolve the issue effectively. In most cases, the camera malfunctions for the following reasons:

  1. Hardware Issues
  2. Driver Problems
  3. Permission Settings
  4. Software Conflicts
  5. Software Updates

So, here are some fixes that will surely help you resolve the Microsoft Teams camera not working issue on your Windows 11 PC:

Fix 1: Give Teams Access to the Camera

The team may not have permission to access the camera, which is why the Microsoft Teams Camera is not working on Windows 11. To solve the problem, 

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Then select Privacy & Security > Camera from the menu.

  4. There should be no problem using the camera now on every app on your computer. To test it, start a video conference call in Teams.

Fix 2: Give Browser Access to the Camera

In many cases, I’ve seen that when users try to access Teams, they face permission issues with the camera and end up getting Teams camera not working or stopped working problem. To fix this, you have to give the required permission to the browser using the steps mentioned below:

  1. Select Chrome’s three-dot icon and then click on Settings.
  2. Click on Privacy and Security > Site Settings.
  3. Afterward, expand teams.live.com, select the Camera dropdown, and choose either Ask or Allow.

  4. To manage cookies and site permissions for all sites in Edge, click the three-dot icon in the top-right corner and select Settings.
  5. On the right side of live.com, click the caret icon.
  6. Choose Ask or Allow under Camera.

  7. You will always be asked for permission to use the camera if you set it to Ask before starting the video call. When you select Allow, the browser will always have access without asking.

Fix 3: Disable Additional Devices

In case you have also connected other peripheral devices to your device or any extra camera, then I would suggest you to first disable it and reconnet it to your device. This will help Teams to detect the camera again. If that doesn’t doesn’t work for you don’t panic. Moreover, try disabling everything that accesses the camera (such as Zoom & Skype). Afterward, you must try these steps:

  1. Consider disconnecting all other cameras and using the built-in camera instead.
  2. Alternatively, disable the built-in camera in Device Manager and use a USB camera. It is recommended that you disable the external camera before proceeding with the steps.

  1. Select Device Manager by pressing Windows + X
  2. Afterward, click on Sound, video, and Game Controllers> find the webcam
  3. To disable a device, right-click it and select Disable.

Fix 4: Enable Privacy Settings

Did you check your device’s privacy settings? There is a possibility that the MS Team doesn’t have the proper settings to access the camera on your device, and that’s why it is not working. Here are the steps you need to follow to enable privacy settings in order to fix the Microsoft Teams Camera not working on Windows 11 issue:

  1. Initially, press Windows + I to open Settings.
  2. Then, hit the Privacy & Security.
  3. To unhide the Camera, double-click it in the right pane.
  4. Make sure the camera is allowed access on this device under the Allow access to the camera section.
  5. You can access your camera through these settings: Allow this device to access the camera, Allow desktop apps to access your camera, and Allow apps to access your camera.
  6. When you enable both options, Teams will now allow you to access the camera.

Allow microphone access:

Depending on your camera, you may also need to configure settings to give Teams access to the microphone. Here is how you can allow Microsoft Teams to access your microphone on Windows:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Then click on Privacy.
  3. Select Microphone.

  5. Toggle on Microphone access for this device.
  6. You can turn on or off the toggle switch to allow apps to access your microphone section.
  7. At the bottom of the page, toggle on Allow desktop apps to access the microphone.

You should now be able to access your device’s microphone and webcam after completing these steps by resolving the Microsoft Teams Camera not working on Windows 11 issue.

Allow App Access to Media:

Many users have reported that when they allow the Teams app to access their device’s media, it starts working normally again. To fix Microsoft Teams Camera not working on Windows 11, you need to grant peripheral access to Teams add-ons.

  1. Start Microsoft Teams.
  2. In the profile icon, click Settings > App permissions, then toggle the camera, microphone, and speakers buttons. It will then be possible for the app add-on to access the webcam.

You may have encountered this problem on your Windows 11 PC and missed your online conference when the Teams app was outdated. So, when you update your MS Teams app, it will surely help you troubleshoot this Teams Camera issue. To do so:

  1. Open Microsoft Teams, click on your profile pic and then click Check for updates. Nevertheless, it will automatically download and install any updates that are available.
  2. Once the update is complete, exit the app and run MS Teams to verify that the camera is working.

Fix 6: Reinstall Microsoft Teams

  1. Initially, press Windows + I > Apps and click on Apps & features.
  2. Go to the Microsoft Teams menu and select Uninstall.
  3. Once you have confirmed the action, click Uninstall again.

Fix 7: Update Camera Driver

  1. Go to the Settings page.
  2. Then click on Windows Update.
  3. Select Advanced Options> Optional Updates.

  5. Afterward, select Download and Install from the drop-down menu.

Your camera should then begin working again with Microsoft Teams once the driver update has been downloaded and installed.

Fix 8: Reinstall the Camera Driver

Microsoft Teams Camera is not working on Windows 11. This problem may be resolved by reinstalling the webcam through Device Manager. Here are the steps you can take to uninstall and reinstall the camera driver:

  1. Click on Start.
  2. Open Device Manager by searching for it and clicking the top result.
  3. You can expand the branch for Imaging devices, Cameras, or Sound, video, and game controllers.
  4. Using the right-click menu, select Uninstall Driver from the webcam’s properties.

  6. Afterward, the device driver could not be downloaded by Windows Update. Download the controllers from the manufacturer’s support site.
  7. Then click on Actions.
  8. Thereafter, to check for hardware changes, click the Scan for hardware changes button.
